California Transparency in Supply Chains Act
On January 1, 2012, the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB657) went into effect in the state of California. At Melissa & Doug, we are dedicated to ensuring fair labor practices are used throughout our supply chain. We use certified third party audit firms to evaluate our factories for compliance to our Social Responsibility standards, including those related to Slavery and Human Trafficking. Suppliers must maintain their good standing with these audits, and must renew these audits annually. Additionally, Melissa & Doug internal staff auditors conduct announced and unannounced audits at our suppliers on an on-going basis. Results of all audits are reported directly to our US headquarters. Zero tolerance is shown for violations including underage labor, forced labor, human trafficking, slavery, and basic workplace safety condition requirements. Training by third party certified audit firms is conducted on an annual basis for all Melissa & Doug employees responsible for evaluating our suppliers’ compliance to Melissa & Doug’s Supplier Policies and Guidance, which outlines regulations related to Supplier Conduct, including the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act. These requirement and guidance documents are presented to Melissa & Doug suppliers on an annual basis at our Supplier Summit, and are available for our suppliers’ independent reference on Melissa & Doug’s Supplier Resource Portal.
