Step 1: Start your child’s Blockables collection
One Blockables set will do, but three or four will allow for truly epic builds! Blockables are connectable, stackable, and playable, with four main Blockables building sets—Town, Vehicles, Farm, and Safari—as well as two starter sets (Woodland Friends, Farm Friends) for little builders to choose from.
The solid wood connect-and-play building blocks are perfect manipulatives to help preschoolers ages 2+ boost developmental skills (fine motor, problem-solving, matching, storytelling, and self-esteem), while using their imaginations and having fun. Easy-to-grasp smooth, colorful wooden blocks fit together in a snap with large connectors that even little hands can push in and pull out. The packaging folds out to convert into a fun play space, and pieces store in the sturdy corrugated box with a soft handle for easy cleanup and portability.
Step 2: Build your construction crew—invite friends!
Solo building can be engaging, but having a construction crew means even more building fun! Invite a few friends over for your at-home Blockables Building Playdate: A good rule of thumb for child get-togethers is to keep the guest list manageable—your child’s age is how many guests you should look to invite. More than that can get overwhelming for both kids and caregivers. And don’t be afraid to mix ages during building play—Blockables appeal to younger and older kids, those who want to follow the instructions, and those who want to get creative.
Step 3: Feed those Builders!
Snacks are essential for kid get-togethers, and for your at-home Blockables Playdate, consider getting creative with the menu and presentation. For example, you could host a build-your-own snack station, and serve cut cheese, meat, fruits, and veggies, then provide pretzel sticks or toothpicks for “connecting” the components. Instant hit!
Step 4: Blueprints for Blockables Play
Parents and caregivers can get in on the Blockables fun, too! If the kids need an icebreaker to get the building fun started, or a pick-me-up mid-playdate to keep the kids engaged, have some creative play prompts handy. For example, write down some wacky ideas on index cards, and deploy them when needed: “Build the tallest structure you can”; “Create an animal mash-up and name it”; “Make a robot chicken and give it a job”; “Design a vehicle that drives AND floats”; “Build a spaceship as long as your arm.” Playing with your child not only builds bonds between you, it’s making memories that last forever.
